    Section 18: Left Fuel Tank (12 / 143 wings / 480 total)

Finally, i got started on the fuel tanks. I think working on the fuel tanks is something builders anticipate for some time.

    Fuel tank clecoed together.

From Tim Olsen's tips page, the deluxe fuel cap flange should be ground down across the width of the opening. I did this as carefully as i could on my belt sander first. I drew some alignment marks and lined up as carefully as i could by hand.

The final result does seem to fit better.

    Fuel cap flange is match-drilled.

The plans call for drilling all screw holes to #19. Along the inboard bottom skin, there seem to be 2 extra #19 holes not indicated on the plans or diagrams. Not sure what should be done with these holes.

    Jae,

At this point, don't do anything with the holes. In section 44 (when you get it) you install nutplates for the wing root fairing. Somehow those holes were left off of the drawing.

-----Original Message----- Subject: Re: RV-10 pg 18-4, step 6, why countersink?

Because it is difficult to get the back baffle on with interlocking dimples. C'sinking makes it easier and improves the seal.

Subject: RV-10 pg 18-4, step 6, why countersink?

Hi, another quick question. is there a special reason for countersinking the fuel tank skin instead of dimpling here? this is the first time countersinking instead of dimpling the skin is called for.

    thanks, jae
