    Are Tank Dimple Dies Necessary?

It was recommended to me by another builder to use tank dimple dies. I then did some research on the subject. As is typical, you get an evenly consensus of those for and against it.

I think I am going to try avoiding the extra $40 cost and go without first. I will run the countersink bit a few times, to help make a deeper dimple.

Here is a very strong argument for tank dimple dies: http://home.hiwaay.net/~sbuc/journal/tankdies.html

An argument against, is that the tank dimple will enlarge the whole more, causing a higher tendency for tipped rivets, especially with proseal thrown into the mix.

    12/18/2006 UPDATE

Yeah, if i ever build another fuel tank, i will make sure to have the fuel tank dimple dies. My rivets definitely sit a little more proud on the tanks than they do anywhere else, even after running the countersink bit on the dimpled holes several times.
