Section 15: Starting Rear Spars and an Oops! (38 / 65 wings / 389 total)
I decided to skip riveting of the spars and continue on to the rear spars. This is due to space considerations and other logistics. I need to drill out the holes for wiring conduits and pitot lines, but I currrently have none of those parts. Unfortunately, I made a mistake right away on the rear spar plans. Step 2 mentions assembling the aileron hinge bracket assembly and refers to Figure 2, which shows the riveting details, including the BEARING-COM-3-5. In initial assembly, however, the BEARING-COM-3-5 should NOT be used yet. For one, all the drilling and countersinking will get into the bearing, which you do not want. Also, the bearing needs to be press-fit into the spacer, using a vice or clamp. My mistake was I deburred the inside hole of the spacer, for the bearing to fit. Then I realized my mistake in step 5 where it mentions the press fitting of the bearing. In addition to ordering the spacers, i made the following order from Van's: 1. Deluxe Fuel Caps (Locking) 2. Proseal quart size 3. Fuel Tank Test Kit 4. Bolt Eyes x3 5. DUCT NT 5/8 - 50' - wiring conduit 6. W-1013A aileron bracket spacers I still need to call Duckworks about the leading edge lights and find out more about the Pitot system. UPDATE 7/28 I received my shipment of parts above. Unfortunately, i thought i had confirmed with Van's that the W-1013A aileron bracket spacers come in a pack of 4, thus, I thought I was receiving 4 of them. I received a single one, but I needed at least 2. Thus, another shipment is on the way. Wow, a single aileron bracket is $5. This is turning out to be a slightly costlier mistake than I had thought.
