    Section 14: Wing Ribs (29 / 56 wings / 380 total)

    7/16 - Emery board (ie nail file). My girlfriend suggested I use nail files for sanding the tight spaces between the flange tabs on the wing ribs. Bless her. I was using a hobby file wrapped with emery cloth, but the nail file works even better.

    The item to the right, is a dowel wrapped with emery cloth and some glue. I stuck this into a cordless drill and was able to sand the rounded notches in the between the spar ribs. Worked great - much better than doing this by hand with a file.

    I had some trouble with the W-1029 Torque Tube Support Brackets. The brackets were touching the web in 3 places: on the inside radius of the top flange, on the inside radius of the bottom flange, and in the middle where the lightening hole is cutout and the edge is raised up. I ended up having to grind down about 1 to 2 / 32 to allow the support racket to clear those spots on the rib.

    7/19 - The above photos show a rib before and after fluting. Before, you can see the curve of the shadow of the rib. Each of the main wing ribs required fluting in exactly the same spots.

    Fluting turned out to go much more quickly than originally though. Each rib required only 3 minutes to complete. Each rib has only 2 sections of the flange that required fluting. I used barely enough force to start each flute, which about 50% of the time, ended up being all that was required.

    This is a beautiful sight. All of the main ribs are deburred, straightened, flanges bent to 90deg, and fluted.

    7/20 - I adopted this trick i saw elsewhere, to cleco on the rear spar which made handling the ribs much easier.
